Metal!

Favorite band right now is probably Slipknot. I also like Trivium, Chimaira, Disturbed, System of a Down, Metallica.... etc.

Favorite song right now is probably Diluted by Slipknot. I also am liking Rain and A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation by Trivium, and Pure Hatred by Chimaira is just an instant classic.

Just because it's mainstream, doesn't necessarily mean it's bad. Slipknot has some amazing songs, in my opinion. So does Metallica, etc.

I don't really do... bands, though. I just download a discography of a band if I like a couple of their songs, and pick out the ones I like, and delete the others. I keep a playlist of all the songs I like that I come across.

All I have to say is Buckethead.  He has so many different styles you have to hear all of his albums, which he has over 50 of them mostly solo but, he does a lot of collaborations.  He has played with Les Claypool in Les Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, Bootsie Collins, Bill Laswell and many others.  He goes from acoustic melodic peaceful ballads to hardcore double kick drum speed metal. He plays blues, jazz, progressive you name it he's probably done it.  The fastest guitar player alive and one of the most accurate, he can shred live like no one else can.  Just check him out, and you can't just listen to one song, gotta to check out a few before you base an opinion.
