What is Compiz? Compiz is the best eye-candy that you will ever see in an OS environment. It features things like Wobbly Windows, a cube of different desktops and lots, lots more.
How to install Compiz on ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala):
1. Open up a Terminal.
2. Type "su" (without the quotes) and type in the password.
3. Type "gedit /etc/apt/sources.list" (without the quotes).
4. Add "deb
http://ppa.launchpad.net/compiz/ubuntu karmic main" (without the quotes) to the bottom of the file. Save the file, and close it.
5. Type "apt-get update" (without the quotes), and then type "apt-get upgrade" (Again, without the quotes).
6. Type "apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported compiz-plugins emerald fusion-icon" (without the quotes). If it prompts you, make sure you do "y" instead of "n". If it doesn't prompt you for anything, don't worry about a thing.
7. When that's all done, type "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade" (without the quotes...) again.
8. Type "fusion-icon". A little blue icon with an arrow thing will appear on the Task-bar thing. Right click it and go into the settings manager.
9. Configure it to your liking!
