It is a good idea, you don't have to worry about anything as it's made just for Linux.

The first PC built by the community for the community.

    * pure Linux
    * consumer ready
    * perfectly preconfigured
    * built by the community
    * 100% free software and drivers
    * energy efficient
    * easy to upgrade
    * phone and email support included
    * donation to the KDE project included in the price

I know there are some Linux-heads on this site so thought I would share, I might just pick on up.

$492.98  since Mint is free, probably shipping cost as well.

Maybe I'd pay that much for a laptop but I think I'd do better with a $200 emachine running mint even though this pc was made for linux.

I told you I could do better with a $200 emachine, then again you can think of the price as a donation to the linux society

"Open-PC is a completely open computer. Only components with complete technical specifications, as provided by the manufacturers, were used. Everything works with free drivers and no proprietary software is needed."

The reason why it is so expensive is because they were limited to certain hardware, they couldn't use anything that was closed source the whole point of the project was to use only open source hardware and software.  When you buy this you are also helping out the open source community by supporting free drivers and of course Linux.
