It's a touchpad. Instead of doing things the way you do them now, you move your fingers in weird gestures and stuff happens.

They basically took the touchpad out of a Macbook and made it wireless (and bigger) so it can be used with a desktop.

Writer was taking creative liberties to get more views..
Its not an end to Mac OSX, rather more of an introduction of multitouch gestures into the main os. Inflammatory topic = more views = more money for the site.
