Viruses can be very dangerous things that do anything from make your computer slower, steal your personal information, or even make your computer completely unuseable. Scary right? Fortunatly there are somethings you can do to protect yourself and your computer.

The first thing you can do is download a virus scanner I and many others here at pctechland reccomend avast free antivirus because does not use many resources and rarely has a false positive. It can be found here:  http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html

The next thing you should do is install a firewall, a firewall is basically something that monitors what is coming into your computer from the Internet and blocks the virus before it gets In and messes up your computer me and some of the others at pctechland reccomend comodo firewall it can be found here:  http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/firewall.php

Finally some tips onhow to help keep your pc safe:
1. Don't go downloading alot of stuff on the Internet this is one way that viruses get into your computer.

2. Mc Afee and norton antivirus are not good good antivirus program you can find much better free antivirus programs intact norton antivirus actually spreads some viruses further into your pc so it is best not to use it use avast free antivirus as mentioned above.

Please note that these are just some basic things you can do to protect yourself and your pc.

Also more free antivirus programs can be found in the free pc software section of the website In the topic Toasts favorite (free) security software.
