I have a Lenovo s10-3t with 250GB Hard Drive.
My current partitioning looks like this:

I want to know if I can install Ubuntu Netbook Remix on a new (30GB) partition and keep my other partitions. I also want to know if it will keep my Lenovo Quick Start (Splashtop). So I want to make it so that when I turn on the computer, Lenovo Quick Start opens, the when I click exit, GRUB comes up and gives me the choice between Windows 7 and Ubuntu Netbook Remix. And I would like to do this without a disk drive.

I'm a complete noob at this so a step-by-step guide would help. And I'd like to make sure Lenovo Quick Start stays.

Ive done some dualbooting on my other laptop (Win7/Linux Mint) but I've never had something like this.

1. Open up Disk Management and right-click on the hard-drive that you want to install Linux on. Select "Shrink Volume" and do that.

2. Boot computer with Linux CD. Install. Let me know if you need any help at all.

3. GRUB will automatically detect ALL of the OS' on the computer, so you don't need to do anything else!

If you need any help with Linux, let us know.

Disturbeds way works, but this is what I would do:

if it is anything like the desktop version of Ubuntu, put in the CD and Widows will ask you what to do, click the first option, setup.exe i believe it was. then a menu would come up. Click "Install inside of Windows" the rest is self explanatory. Thats how I have mine set up.

@disturbed: I read somewhere that Splashtop is embedded into the firmware, so will grub give me the option for all 3 os's or will Splashtop open, then when I exit Splashtop, grub will come up and give the option for win/linux. I want Quick Start (Splashtop) to come before GRUB.

@dave: Doesn't sleep mode not work with that method?

idk, i believe it does with the newer versions like the later 9s and the 10s, but i am not sure. but Lunix boots very fast, so it is also good. the Install inside of windows is what i use, and it has the least problems with setting up.

What you're talking about is WUBI.exe, and I don't think it comes with Linux Mint.

I think you're best off just doing it my way. I believe that you will have to use GRUB. I don't know why you want to use Splashtop.

I'd install Linux, and go from there. Worst comes to worst, you can remove Linux, and fix your MBR.

alright. If something goes wrong and quick start goes away, will enabling, then disabling it in the BIOS fix it?

I don't really know, I've never used Splashtop. Just now realized that you are probably using a Netbook if you use Splashtop. I have little-to-no experience with those. Dave is probably more qualified for this.

Well nobody addressed the issue with not having a disk drive. Download the .iso of the disk image. Then, use Unetbootin to allow you to use a USB thumb drive to boot to. Idk what all of this talk about the BIOS is...

that works, or you could extract the iso into a folder on your desktop using 7Zip

Alright, I'll use a usb flash drive to boot. Worst case scenario, splashtop wont come back and I find another instanton os.

Here is a good, small, almost "instant-on" OS.

Here is a Unetbootin link:

ALSO, I learned that Splashtop is not on the harddrive, but it is rather in the BIOS of ASUS netbooks and some notebooks. You probably won't mess it up with this.

Alright. I got it working fine, except the touch screen is a little glitchy. But it works, so yay!
