You can do the following

1) get a faster hard drive (72000 rpm) note: this can be expensive at times

2) buy some more ram, try to find you computer or your mother board model and see what the maximum amount of ram is and then install it Note: This can also be expensive.

3) Run Ms config by going to start - run -ms config -boot and check out all the unnecessary programs (pretty much everything but your anti virus)

and I think thats pretty much all you can do for now.

... No

Unless you're buying some uber tricked out memory stick it's nowhere near that.

Do what everyone else is saying about Defragging, or grab all your important stuff and reformat. This eliminates the possibility that your PC's slow speed is being caused by a software virus or anything like that.

If all else fails, install Linux.

Honestly linux is your best, I would hav to suggest lunux mint because it uses low resources so it might be perfect for you, or if you are still a diehard windows fan I beleive windows 2000 uses low resources too, and you could use 1 or 2 of the Os's until you save up for a new computer/ more ram

Or, instead of spending $300 on RAM, you could spend that on a new computer. You could make a pretty good one for $300 (Or maybe a little more, I mean, it IS a computer) on CyberPowerPC during a sale. Mine runs Crysis on Medium-High at 1680x1050 and it only cost me $500. If you aren't big on gaming, You could probably bring that price down to around $300-$375 and still have a good computer.

But yeah, until then, Linux or some other OS is the way to go. Reformat!
