I swear I just posted this, but, Get Firefox, and then try browsing. Also, make sure you use Windows Update...

I was disregarding the possibility that he might be infected with something because Avast didn't catch it. But then again, Avast doesn't scan for Spyware, I think.

Hijack This is probably a good bet if you think you might have something.

But after that, get rid of IE, it's not very good.

It doesnt have to be spyware or a virus hijack this also finds bho's and other things inside of ie that may have been installed without you knowing and no spyware remover or antivirus is going to pick it up because its neither one

there are other things that can go wrong with a pc besides virus/spyware and when someone is having a problem with a program saying "downlad this instead" is a cop out, maybe he likes ie better

it was most likely the bho that had no name and no file... when you reinstalled ie it removed the bho and now it works. thats my opinion

i cant know for sure because you  reinstalled but that seems to be the only prob with the hijack this log i looked at it on my phone so it was hard to interpret because of formatting so i will look when i get home and let you know whats up so you can check for the problem if this happens again

I've never heard of that program... The program itself might have had some spyware or something in it.

nah spyware terminator is clean pcworld wouldnt list it if it was malicious

also that bho with no file or anything linked to it is still suspicious it may have been spyware terminator was supposed to install a bho to protect you and perhaps it failed which caused the problem i cant know for sure though this is all just speculation because i have no idea what you do on your pc

so what actually caused the problem i cant tell from the info given but i still stand by that broken bho being the problem but we will never know because you reinstalled but, it was a good idea for an easy fix and im glad it worked for you

edit: upon further investigation i have found that spyware terminator does install a bho into ie upon installation so it would seem that was it from the evidence
